Magento 2 for your Ecommerce Business

What is Magento?

Magento is considered as one of the world’s leading eCommerce platform originally developed by Varien in 2008 using PHP and the components of Zend Framework. Due to its user-friendly features and flexibility, 26% of the best eCommerce websites use Magento. It offers many useful tools for marketing, search engine optimization, and the store’s catalog-management. It offers two versions: Magento 1 and Magento 2. As claimed by the official Magento site it will drop the support for Magento 1 from June 2020. Upgrading to Magento 2 will give you access to wide range of features— better performance, advanced SEO, improved checkout, strong security, and marketing automation.
Magento 2 comes in two versions:
  • Magento Open Source Edition:
Previously knowns as Community edition is open-source eCommerce platform that is available for everyone to download. This edition is perfect for businesses, startups, and small stores. As it is beginner friendly, you can easily modify and adjust it to meet specific requirements of the company.

  • Magento Commerce Edition:
Formerly called as an Enterprise edition. It is mostly used by medium to big store owners. Magento Enterprise Edition comes with out-of-the-box features and more customizable options for a growing business. It also gives you technical support with installation, usage, configuration, and troubleshooting.
Benefits of Magento 2
If you consider switching to M2, you should know its main advantages:
  • Advanced Scalability & Performance:
Magento 2 now runs 20% faster than Magento 1. It has improved the overall architecture and is now much safer than the older version. M2 supports the latest version of PHP and new enhanced security features.
  • Mobile Friendly:
As mobile commerce is a trend your online store should be accessible on mobile devices, M2 offers newly responsive themes and a better user experience on mobile which will help in greater sales and profits.
  • SEO Performance:
SEO is one of the critical factors of an online store. Magento 2 provides a Canonical tag to avoid the duplicate content. It allows admins to add Meta tags for individual Product/Category.
  • Extensions:
M2 offers third party plugins to overlap the core code, rather than overwriting it. Not only do plugins now work better, but they are a whole lot cheaper and easier to integrate.  New technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, and REquire.js also make installing extensions easier.
  • Better Admin Interface:
Magento 2 has a highly-improved admin interface, which allows non-tech users to accomplish more without having to rely on their developers. It also allows you to perform the tasks faster.
  • Easier Checkout Process:
For ecommerce websites, the checkout process can be critical, since it is one of the factors that decides whether you make sales or not. According to a research, an ecommerce website may gain a 35.26% increase in conversion rate if it improves its checkout process. M2 has a more efficient and easier checkout process for users.
Challenges:
  • If you are migrating from M1 to M2, you have to build it from scratch because there are going to be compatibility issues of themes and extensions.
  • The cost for Enterprise edition is significantly higher. Although Community edition is free of charge but M2 licence comes with a high price starting at $22,000 per year. This may be the only feature where Magento 1 wins the battle.
Conclusion:
Magento has a huge impact on the world of e-commerce. Most of the eCommerce websites are migrating from Magento 1 to Magento 2. You can risk your store and all customer information if you do not switch from Magento1 to another solution. You can make the migration easy and smooth by hiring an eCommerce developer.
